Break The Bias IWD 2022

Updated: Mar 12, 2022

This year's International WOMEN's Day campaign theme was:

BREAK THE BIAS.

What's your view on this?

Here's mine :

Together we can set the process in motion to #BreakTheBias

and work towards a world free of stereotypes and discrimination against WOMEN

Break the bias:

To me, it goes beyond gender inequality.

In as much as I look forward to a world that is equitable, inclusive, and free from discrimination hence giving WOMEN a platform to emerge, and make strides in all spheres of life and the economy;

I'm equally hoping for a society where women of all races, skin color, hair texture, accents, shapes, sizes, educational background; would be treatedequitably.

Where difference is valued, celebrated, and utilised for a common good.

Perhaps if as a WOMAN,

I started tearing down the walls of prejudice, discrimination, superiority, insecurity and envy;

Perhaps if we all as WOMEN saw eachother as different yet equal;

Flawed, yet worthy;

If we could start seeing an achievement by another WOMAN as an inspiration and motivation to forge ahead, and not a threat or rivalry.

Maybe if we started seeing a weakness in a fellow WOMAN as an opportunity to help and not to tear down;

Maybe if we spent more time praying to know "why" and trying to understand "what" ... is wrong in another WOMAN's life, with the sole aim of bringing a solution, or atleast trying;

Perhaps, THEN we would begin to #BreakTheBias

We often look at bias and discrimination as viles inflicted upon us! How about the stereotypes and limits we have imposed on our very own selves.

Sometimes because society and even close relations made us see ourselves that way.

We grew up hearing we are not capable of doing this, or that.

The media tells us we must look a certain way to be "Beautiful"

We end up believing we are inadequate.

The more we believe we are enough, the more we'll be enough!

The more we stand together as WOMEN to build eachother up and push ourselves forward, the higher we will rise and overcome the stereotypes and biases we see and face daily in our communities.
